BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — Two teams with identical records and potent post players will meet Wednesday night when Duquesne visits Boise State in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup. The Dukes (6-3) and Broncos (6-3) will tip off at 9 p.m. EST at Taco Bell Arena, each looking to build momentum before entering their respective conference schedules. Duquesne arrives after an 84-75 home win over Stony Brook on Saturday, powered by a season-high 25 points from forward John Hugley. The 6-foot-9 senior has been a focal point, averaging 18.9 points over his last seven games, including a 27-point performance in the season opener. His consistency will be critical against a physical Boise State frontcourt. The Broncos counter with their own interior force in sophomore Drew Fielder. The 6-foot-10 forward is coming off a 16-point effort in a 77-68 road victory at Butler, Boise State’s most impressive win this season. Fielder has shown high-ceiling scoring ability, dropping 27 points against Chaminade on Nov. 26, but his production has fluctuated. Both teams have faced similar tests. Each has a loss to a power conference opponent — Duquesne fell at Villanova, while Boise State dropped games to USC and NC State in a holiday tournament. The Broncos’ defense has been a staple, holding four opponents under 60 points this season. Duquesne’s offense, which has scored 80 or more points in six games, will challenge that defense. Alongside Hugley, guards Jimmie Williams and Jakub Necas provided scoring support against Stony Brook. For Boise State, guard Dylan Andrews, who scored 20 against Butler, provides backcourt balance to Fielder’s inside presence. The game is a standalone contest before each team embarks on a busy stretch. Duquesne travels to Nevada on Saturday, while Boise State hosts Saint Mary’s in Idaho Falls on Sunday. Wednesday’s winner will secure a winning nonconference record and a quality resume-building victory.
