FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) — Two Horizon League men’s basketball teams looking to steady their seasons will meet Sunday when the Green Bay Phoenix visit the Wright State Raiders at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Both teams enter the contest with identical 4-5 overall records. Green Bay is coming off a narrow 80-78 home loss to Robert Morris on Thursday, while Wright State fell 69-68 at Youngstown State on Wednesday. Each squad has shown flashes, with the Phoenix riding a three-game win streak earlier in November and the Raiders posting a pair of 30-plus point victories. The matchup features a compelling contrast in standout performers. Green Bay will lean on guard Preston Ruedinger, who is averaging 17 points and six assists over his last two games. He erupted for 30 points in a win over Haskell on Nov. 29 and has been a consistent facilitator. For Wright State, forward Andrea Holden provides a major defensive presence in the paint. He blocked five shots against Youngstown State and recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime loss at Kent State. In Green Bay’s last outing, Ruedinger scored 17 points with six assists, while Justin Allen added a team-high 20 points. The Phoenix led by 10 at halftime but were outscored 45-33 after the break. Wright State’s latest loss was a heartbreaker, as Youngstown State hit a game-winning shot with two seconds remaining. Holden had 11 points and five blocks in that defeat, with Sam Alamutu and TJ Burch combining for 27 points. The game marks the beginning of Horizon League play for both programs. Green Bay’s upcoming schedule includes a quick turnaround at IU Indy on Dec. 11. Wright State will hit the road to face Marshall on Dec. 13. Sunday’s tip-off is set for a conference opener that could provide early momentum in the league standings.
