Preview: TCU Horned Frogs at North Texas Mean Green DENTON, Texas (Interstat) — A surging TCU team aims to continue its momentum against a battle-tested North Texas squad when the intrastate foes meet Sunday at North Texas Coliseum. The Horned Frogs (5-2) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a notable road victory at then-Wisconsin last Friday. TCU followed that with a hard-fought 84-80 win at Florida. Forward David Punch has been pivotal during the run, averaging 18 points over the last two contests. He scored 17 points in 31 minutes against the Badgers. North Texas (7-2), however, presents a formidable challenge on its home floor. The Mean Green have won five of their last six, with their only losses coming in tight road games at Oregon State and against a ranked Saint Mary’s team. Guard Je’Shawn Stevenson has been the offensive catalyst, scoring 20 or more points in three of the last five games. He is coming off a 15-point, six-assist performance in a narrow 77-75 win over Houston Christian on Tuesday. This matchup pits TCU’s recent high-major success against North Texas’s consistent execution and home-court advantage. The Mean Green’s defense, which has held opponents under 70 points in six of nine games, will be tested by a balanced TCU attack that saw Brock Harding add 16 points and five assists against Wisconsin. TCU’s losses are by a combined seven points to Michigan and New Orleans. North Texas’s defeats are by two points at Oregon State and 31 at Saint Mary’s. The game is a final nonconference tune-up before both teams dive into their respective league slates. TCU opens Big 12 play at home against Baylor on Jan. 3, while North Texas begins American Athletic Conference action at Memphis on Dec. 31. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon.
