Preview: Towson Tigers at UCF Knights OVIEDO, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging UCF squad looks to continue its strong start when it hosts a capable Towson team in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Sunday at CFE Arena. The Knights (7-1) have won seven straight since a season-opening loss to Vanderbilt, including an 82-57 rout of Virginia Military Institute last Saturday. UCF’s offense has been potent, averaging 88.6 points during its win streak. A key catalyst is forward Jamichael Stillwell, who is coming off a dominant 21-point, 14-rebound, 5-assist performance against VMI. He has posted two double-doubles in his last four games. “We’re playing with good energy and sharing the ball,” UCF coach said. “We have to maintain that focus against a very tough, physical opponent.” That opponent is the Towson Tigers (6-3), who are riding a three-game winning streak after a 93-80 victory over Cornell on Wednesday. The Tigers are led by guard Tyler Tejada, who scored 26 points in that win and has averaged 22.4 points over his last five contests. Tejada’s scoring punch, including a 27-point outing at UC San Diego, will be central to Towson’s hopes. “Tyler has been consistent for us, but we need a complete effort on the road,” Towson coach said. “UCF is athletic and playing with a lot of confidence. It’s a great test.” The game represents a final tune-up against a mid-major opponent for UCF before a daunting Big 12 schedule begins in January. For Towson, it’s a high-profile opportunity to add a quality road win before Colonial Athletic Association play. UCF holds a notable edge in rebounding, averaging over 40 per game, led by Stillwell and Devan Cambridge. Towson will counter with a defense that has held four opponents under 62 points this season. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon. UCF leads the all-time series 2-0, with the last meeting occurring in 2019.
