Preview: Texas A&M Faces SMU in Arlington Showdown ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — A top-15 nonconference clash with NCAA Tournament implications is set for Sunday when the Texas A&M Aggies face the SMU Mustangs at Globe Life Park. Both teams enter with strong early-season resumes. The Aggies (7-2) have won five straight, including an 81-73 road victory at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The Mustangs (8-1), whose only blemish was a 69-88 loss at Vanderbilt on Wednesday, had been one of the nation’s most explosive offenses prior to the defeat. The matchup features two of the country’s most dynamic guards. Texas A&M is powered by Rashaun Agee, who is coming off a 21-point, 4-assist performance against Pitt. His most dominant outing was a 17-point, 17-rebound effort in a 95-59 rout of Florida State on Nov. 28. SMU counters with Boopie Miller, a catalyst for its high-powered attack. Miller averages 21.6 points and 7.2 assists per game, having posted double-doubles in points and assists twice this season, including 25 points and 10 assists against Radford on Nov. 24. He scored 28 points in an overtime win at Mississippi State. Texas A&M’s recent surge follows two early losses to Oklahoma State and UCF. The Aggies have since found their rhythm, scoring over 80 points in four of their last five wins. SMU, now in the Atlantic Coast Conference, has topped 100 points three times this season but will look to rebound from a cold-shooting night at Vanderbilt where they managed just 69 points. The neutral-site game at the home of the Texas Rangers baseball team offers a geographically convenient showdown for both fan bases. It serves as a final major nonconference test before each team dives into its rigorous league schedule. Texas A&M begins Southeastern Conference play Jan. 3 against LSU, while SMU opens ACC play the same day against North Carolina. Sunday’s winner will secure a valuable quadrant-one victory for March, while the loser will aim to quickly regroup before the holiday break.
