HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — Two Southland Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Sunday when Southeastern Louisiana hosts Northwestern State at the University Center. The Lions (3-5) enter on a two-game winning streak after a 69-65 victory at Navy on Nov. 29. Forward Isaiah Gaines has been a key contributor, averaging 11.7 points and 5.0 rebounds over his last three contests. He scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds in the win over Navy. Northwestern State (1-7) looks to halt a six-game skid following a 92-54 road loss to McNeese State on Friday. Guard Chris Mubiru, who scored 12 points in that defeat, has been a bright spot. He is averaging 10.2 points over his last five games. Southeastern Louisiana’s recent success has been fueled by improved defense, holding its last two opponents below 70 points. The Lions will rely on Gaines and guard Jalen Forrest, who added 12 points against Navy. The Demons, struggling offensively, will need more production beyond Mubiru. Justin Redmond and Izzy Miles, who combined for 29 points against McNeese State, must provide consistent support. This matchup is the conference opener for both teams. Southeastern Louisiana holds a slight edge in early season form, but the Demons are desperate for a turnaround. Tipoff is set for Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, in Hammond.
