FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) β€” Two teams seeking momentum amid difficult starts to the season will meet Sunday when the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash visit the Radford Highlanders at the D.N. Dedmon Center. Saint Francis (2-7) is coming off a 100-41 rout of non-Division I Penn St.-Shenango on Wednesday, but had lost its previous five games, all by double digits. The Red Flash’s only other win came against Franciscan, another non-DI opponent. In games against DI competition, they are 0-7 and have allowed an average of 90.1 points per contest. Radford (3-7) has faced a demanding early schedule, with its three victories coming against Western Illinois, West Va. Wesleyan and a surprising 102-75 blowout of Notre Dame on Nov. 29. The Highlanders have dropped four of their last five, however, including an 82-75 home loss to Southern Mississippi on Wednesday. A key matchup will feature emerging players from each side. Saint Francis guard Trey Weiand broke out with 17 points in 24 minutes against Penn St.-Shenango after seeing limited action in prior games. His production will be needed against a Radford defense allowing 80.9 points per game. For the Highlanders, forward Tyson Brown provides interior presence. He is coming off a season-high 19-point performance against Southern Miss and recorded a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds against Cleveland State on Nov. 16. His shot-blocking ability, highlighted by a five-block game against Wright State, could challenge a Saint Francis team prone to offensive struggles. Both teams have struggled defensively, suggesting a potentially high-scoring affair. Saint Francis will look to build on its offensive outburst from midweek, while Radford aims to leverage its home court and strength of schedule to secure a win before a stretch of non-conference games. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip-off on Sunday, Dec. 7.
