Preview: Hofstra Pride at Pittsburgh Panthers PITTSBURGH (Interstat) ā Two teams looking to steady their seasons will meet Sunday when the Hofstra Pride visits the Pittsburgh Panthers in a nonconference menās basketball game at Petersen Events Center. Both teams enter with identical 5-4 records. Hofstra is coming off a narrow 72-70 road loss at Columbia on Wednesday, while Pittsburgh fell 81-73 at home to Texas A&M on Tuesday. The game features a compelling matchup between two high-scoring guards. Hofstra will rely on the hot hand of Cruz Davis, who is averaging 20.6 points over his last seven games. The guard is coming off a 24-point performance against Columbia and has scored 18 or more points in six consecutive contests. His playmaking has also been pivotal, dishing out 5.3 assists per game during that stretch. Pittsburgh counters with Barry Dunning, who has been a consistent force. He has scored in double figures in five of his last six games he has finished, including an 18-point effort in the loss to Texas A&M. Dunningās defensive presence, with multiple blocks in three recent games, will be key against Davis and the Prideās backcourt. Hofstra has shown resilience on the road this season, with victories at Penn, La Salle and Bucknell. The Prideās offense, which put up 95 points in its season opener, will test a Panthers defense that has allowed an average of 75.3 points in its four losses. Pittsburgh, playing its fourth of a five-game homestand, seeks to regain momentum before a tough stretch of ACC play begins later in December. The Panthers have shown flashes, including a quality 67-66 win over Ohio State on Nov. 28, but have struggled with consistency. This marks the first meeting between the programs since 2018. For Hofstra, it is a final major nonconference test before Colonial Athletic Association play begins in January. For Pittsburgh, it is a chance to build confidence before a pivotal road game at Villanova next weekend. Tip-off is set for Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025.
