Preview: San Francisco Dons at Mississippi State Bulldogs TUPELO, Miss. (Interstat) ā Two teams looking to steady their seasons will meet Sunday when the San Francisco Dons face the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a non-conference menās basketball game at BancorpSouth Arena. San Francisco (5-4) arrives seeking to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 65-63 home loss to North Alabama on Wednesday. The Dons have struggled offensively during the slide, averaging just 65.7 points in losses to North Alabama, Nevada and Colorado. Mississippi State (4-4) snapped a two-game losing streak with an 85-73 road win at Georgia Tech on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have shown a propensity for close games, with two of their last three contests going to overtime. The matchup features a compelling contrast in backcourt stars. San Francisco will lean on guard Mookie Cook, who is coming off a 12-point, five-block performance against North Alabama. Cook has been a consistent scorer, reaching double figures in six of nine games this season, including an 18-point outing at Memphis. He will be countered by Mississippi Stateās dynamic guard Josh Hubbard, who is averaging 22.9 points per game. Hubbard is in peak form, scoring 25 or more points in three of his last four outings. He poured in 25 points with five assists in the win over Georgia Tech and had 29 points in a narrow loss to New Mexico on Nov. 21. Both teams have faced challenging early schedules. The Donsā losses have come against Memphis, Colorado, Nevada and North Alabama. The Bulldogsā defeats include setbacks to Iowa State, Kansas State, New Mexico and SMU. For San Francisco, finding secondary scoring behind Cook will be critical. Legend Smiley (11 points) and Saba Gigiberia provided sparks off the bench in the last game. Mississippi State will look for support for Hubbard from guards Jayden Epps and Jamarion Davis-Fleming, who combined for 25 points against Georgia Tech. This game represents the final non-conference tune-up for Mississippi State before a trip to Utah next weekend. San Francisco continues a four-game road swing before returning home to host Saint Louis on Dec. 13. Sundayās contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. CST tip-off.
