CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Interstat) — Wake Forest looks to rebound from a lopsided home loss when it visits West Virginia in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday at Charleston Civic Center. The Demon Deacons (6-3) enter off an 86-68 defeat to Oklahoma on Tuesday. Juke Harris scored 22 points in the loss, while Nate Calmese added 13 points and four assists. Wake Forest’s three losses have come by a combined eight points, excluding the Oklahoma result. The Mountaineers (7-2) have won two straight, most recently a 91-49 rout of Coppin State on Wednesday. Chance Moore and Honor Huff each scored 17 points in the victory. West Virginia’s defense has held opponents under 60 points in five of its seven wins. West Virginia holds a 7-6 edge in the all-time series, but the teams have not met since 2007. This game begins a challenging stretch for both teams before conference play. Wake Forest will host Queens (N.C.) on Dec. 14, while West Virginia will host Arkansas-Little Rock on Dec. 9. Saturday’s matchup features two teams seeking a quality win to bolster their postseason resumes. The key battle will be whether Wake Forest’s offense, averaging over 80 points per game, can solve a stout West Virginia defense allowing just 62.2 points per contest.
