LAFAYETTE, La. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in early-season fortunes will be on display Saturday when the surging UNC Wilmington Seahawks visit the struggling Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns at the Cajundome. The Seahawks (8-1) enter riding a seven-game winning streak, most recently edging Marshall 70-69 on Wednesday behind 21 points from Patrick Wessler and 20 from Nolan Hodge. Their lone loss came on the road at Kent State. Conversely, the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-8) have lost eight straight since a season-opening victory. They are coming off a 65-55 defeat at Lamar on Wednesday and have struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in any game during their skid. UNC Wilmington has dominated through balanced scoring and defense, winning its last three games by an average of 22 points prior to the narrow Marshall win. Louisiana-Lafayette will seek to reverse its fortunes at home, where it is 1-2 this season. After this matchup, UNC Wilmington travels to Valparaiso on Dec. 13. Louisiana-Lafayette begins a three-game road trip at Louisiana Tech the same day.
