Preview: Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — Two teams trending in opposite directions will meet in a Big 10 conference men’s basketball game Saturday when the UCLA Bruins host the Oregon Ducks at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins (6-2) enter on a high note after a narrow 82-80 road victory over Washington on Wednesday. Guard Skyy Clark led the way with 25 points, continuing his strong recent play. Over his last three games, Clark is averaging 18 points, including a 22-point performance in a rout of Presbyterian on Nov. 21. In contrast, the Ducks (4-4) are looking to halt a four-game skid. Their most recent loss was an 82-77 defeat to Southern California at home on Tuesday. Despite the losing streak, forward Kwame Evans has been a consistent bright spot for Oregon. He scored a season-high 23 points against USC and is averaging 15.7 points over the last five contests. UCLA’s early season has been marked by defensive prowess, holding four opponents under 65 points. Their two losses came by a combined 12 points to California and Arizona. Oregon’s struggles have largely occurred on the defensive end, allowing an average of 84.7 points during their four-game losing streak. The matchup features a contrast in styles. UCLA will rely on its structured defense and the scoring bursts of Clark, supported by Donovan Dent (17 points, 8 assists vs. Washington) and Tyler Bilodeau (21 points vs. Washington). Oregon will count on the offensive production of Evans and backcourt mates Takai Simpkins and Jackson Shelstad, who combined for 53 points in the loss to USC. This game marks an early conference test for both programs in the expanded Big 10. For UCLA, it’s a chance to solidify a strong start. For Oregon, it’s a critical opportunity to steady its season before a daunting non-conference trip to Gonzaga on Dec. 21. Saturday’s tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Pauley Pavilion.
