EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (Interstat) — The SIU Edwardsville Cougars, off to a strong start, will host the struggling Western Michigan Broncos in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday at Vadalabene Center. SIU Edwardsville (6-3) enters having won five of its last six, including a 72-63 road victory at North Florida on Tuesday. Ring Malith led the way in that win, scoring a career-high 31 points. Western Michigan (3-5) seeks to halt a two-game skid after a lopsided 84-55 defeat at Valparaiso on Nov. 29. Trey Lewis scored 13 points off the bench in the loss, while Jalen Griffith dished out nine assists. The Cougars have proven formidable at home, winning all four of their games in Edwardsville this season by an average margin of 34.5 points. Western Michigan is 1-4 on the road, with its lone win coming in its season opener at Coastal Carolina. Following this game, SIU Edwardsville will host Eureka on Dec. 14. Western Michigan’s next contest is at Iowa on Dec. 14.
