CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum before conference play begins will meet Saturday when the Morehead State Eagles visit the Presbyterian Blue Hose in a nonconference men’s basketball game. The matchup at the Templeton Center features a pair of programs navigating challenging early-season schedules. Morehead State (3-6) enters on a three-game skid, including an 84-52 road loss at Murray State on Tuesday. Presbyterian (5-6) looks to rebound from a 63-56 defeat at Wofford on Wednesday. A key battle will feature each team’s top scoring threat. Morehead State guard Davion Cunningham has been a bright spot, averaging 16.4 points over his last five games. He is coming off a 23-point performance in a win at Louisiana-Monroe on Nov. 22 and recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds against IU Indy on Nov. 29. For Presbyterian, forward Jonah Pierce has been consistently productive. He leads the Blue Hose in scoring in four of their last five contests, including a 19-point effort at Wofford. Pierce also posted a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds in a season-opening win over East Tennessee State. Morehead State’s record is tempered by a road-heavy slate featuring losses to power conference opponents Clemson and Georgia. The Eagles’ victories have come against non-Division I foes Ky. Christian and Midway, along with the Louisiana-Monroe win. Presbyterian has also faced a difficult road itinerary, with losses at UCLA, California, South Carolina and Sacramento State by a combined 21 points. The Blue Hose have defended their home court well, going 4-1 at Templeton Center this season, including a win over an East Tennessee State team that defeated Morehead State. Both teams will look to establish rhythm before a holiday break. Following this contest, Morehead State does not play again until hosting Arkansas-Little Rock on Dec. 16. Presbyterian’s next game is at East Carolina on Dec. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
