PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — A surging Portland State looks to continue its strong start when it hosts a struggling Omaha team in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday at the Stott Center. The Vikings (5-2) have won four straight, including a 77-71 road victory at South Dakota on Wednesday. They are led by guard Terri Miller, who is averaging 18.9 points per game. Miller scored 26 points in the win over South Dakota, his third 20-point performance in the last four games. Omaha (3-7) arrives looking to snap a two-game skid after a 75-70 home loss to Northern Colorado on Wednesday. The Mavericks have faced a challenging early schedule, with five of their seven losses coming on the road, including games at LSU, Colorado State and James Madison. The matchup features two of the nation’s more productive guards. Portland State’s Miller will be countered by Omaha’s Ja’Sean Glover, who is averaging 15.2 points per game. Glover is coming off a season-high 26 points in 39 minutes against Northern Colorado. His backcourt play will be critical for a Mavericks team seeking a signature road win. Portland State has shown offensive firepower, scoring 90 or more points in three games this season. Beyond Miller, Keyon Kensie (22 points vs. South Dakota) and Jaylin Henderson, who notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists last game, provide balance. Omaha will need more scoring support behind Glover and Lance Waddles, who had 19 points against Northern Colorado. The Mavericks have allowed 88 or more points in four of their losses this season, a concern against a high-tempo Vikings offense. This is the first meeting between the programs. For Portland State, it is the final tune-up before a Dec. 17 road test at Colorado. Omaha continues a three-game road trip before returning home to face Doane on Dec. 9. Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon.
