SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Interstat) — Two Big West teams looking to steady their nonconference schedules will meet Saturday when the Cal Poly Mustangs host the UC Riverside Highlanders at Robert Mott Gymnasium. Both teams enter with 4-4 overall records. The Highlanders are coming off a 77-69 road loss at Utah Tech on Nov. 29, where Osiris Grady led the way with 17 points, four rebounds and three blocks. UC Riverside has shown a split personality, with decisive wins over Grambling and San Diego alongside double-digit losses to California Baptist and New Mexico. Cal Poly snapped a two-game skid with an 87-81 home win over Division III Redlands last Saturday. Peter Bandelj paced the Mustangs with 21 points and nine assists in that contest. Their season has been marked by volatility, including a notable 92-85 road win at Utah but also several lopsided defeats. The game represents a final tune-up before challenging stretches for both programs. UC Riverside visits BYU on Dec. 13, while Cal Poly hosts Montana State on Dec. 16 before a trip to UCLA. Saturday’s matchup tips off at 4 p.m. PST on the Cal Poly campus.
