ATHENS, Ohio (Interstat) — Marshall looks to rebound from a narrow loss when it visits struggling Ohio in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday. The Thundering Herd (5-3) fell 70-69 at UNC Wilmington on Wednesday despite 18 points from Noah Otshudi. Marshall had won three of its previous four, including a 98-70 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 20. Ohio (2-6) snapped a five-game skid with a 79-57 home win over Maine on Wednesday, led by Javan Simmons’ 17 points. The Bobcats’ only other victory this season came against Illinois State on Nov. 6. The matchup at the Convocation Center features teams heading in opposite directions. Marshall’s offense has shown potency, averaging over 78 points per game, while Ohio has struggled defensively, allowing 80.6 points on average. Otshudi, who added four assists in the midweek defeat, anchors a Marshall backcourt alongside Wilson Dubinsky. Ohio will rely on Simmons inside and the perimeter scoring of JJ Kelly, who had 14 points against Maine. This is the final tune-up for both before lengthy stretches of conference play. Marshall opens Sun Belt action on Dec. 20, while Ohio begins Mid-American Conference play on Dec. 30. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
