PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — A surging Villanova Wildcats squad will look to extend its winning streak when it hosts the Penn Quakers in a Philadelphia Big 5 men’s basketball matchup on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at The Palestra. The Wildcats (6-1) enter on a six-game win streak, most recently defeating Temple 74-56 on Monday. Villanova’s lone loss came in its season opener at BYU. The team has since found its rhythm, averaging 84.3 points per game during the streak. Sophomore guard Tyler Perkins has been a key catalyst, averaging 14.6 points per game and coming off a 19-point performance against Temple. Penn (5-3) aims to rebound from a 77-60 home loss to Hofstra last Sunday. The Quakers had won three straight prior to that defeat. Their success has largely flowed through junior guard Ethan Roberts, who is averaging 19.9 points per game. Roberts has been prolific, scoring 30 and 31 points in wins over Drexel and Saint Joseph’s, respectively, this season. The game presents a classic contrast. Villanova, a perennial power from the Big East Conference, has used balanced scoring and stout defense, holding opponents to 62.7 points per game during its streak. Penn, of the Ivy League, relies heavily on Roberts’ offensive creation but has shown vulnerability, particularly in its two double-digit losses to Providence and Hofstra. Historically, Villanova holds a commanding advantage in the series. The Wildcats have won 18 of the last 19 meetings, including a 77-56 victory last season. Penn’s last win came in 2002. The Palestra, Penn’s historic on-campus arena, will provide a charged atmosphere for this intracity rivalry. For Villanova, it serves as a final tune-up before a challenging stretch that includes road games at Michigan and Wisconsin. For Penn, it’s a prime opportunity to regain momentum before Ivy League play begins next month. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
