Preview: Florida State Seminoles at Houston Cougars HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Houston Cougars, riding high after a strong start to the season, will host the Florida State Seminoles in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Toyota Center. Houston (7-1) enters the game with one of the nation’s most formidable defenses, having held opponents to an average of 59.6 points per game. Their lone loss came in a tight 76-73 contest against then-Tennessee on Nov. 25. The Cougars are led by guard Milos Uzan, who is averaging 13.8 points and 3.8 assists per game. Uzan is coming off a 15-point performance in a 66-56 win over Notre Dame on Nov. 26 and scored 26 points in an overtime victory against Syracuse on Nov. 24. Florida State (5-3) seeks to rebound from a difficult 107-73 home loss to Georgia this past Tuesday. The Seminoles’ season has been marked by inconsistency, with three losses by 20 or more points offset by several decisive wins. Guard Robert McCray will be a key factor for Florida State. He leads the team in scoring at 15.1 points per game and is coming off an 18-point effort against Georgia. McCray opened the season with a 29-point performance in a narrow road loss at Florida. The game presents a stark contrast in styles. Houston’s methodical, defensive-minded approach will clash with Florida State’s more up-tempo offense, which averages 81.1 points but has struggled against high-major competition. The Seminoles will need to value possessions and find answers for Houston’s relentless perimeter pressure to have a chance on the road. This is the first meeting between the programs since 2001. Following this game, Houston will host Jackson State on Dec. 10, while Florida State will face Massachusetts on Dec. 13 in Sunrise, Florida. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
