Preview: William & Mary Tribe at George Washington Revolutionaries WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two of the early season’s hottest teams in the region will clash Saturday when the William & Mary Tribe visit the George Washington Revolutionaries in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup at the Charles E. Smith Center. The Tribe (8-2) bring a six-game winning streak into the capital, their longest such run in several seasons. Their most recent victory was an 83-79 road win at Duquesne on Tuesday, powered by 17 points from Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi and 14 points and four assists from Kilian Brockhoff. William & Mary’s only losses came on the road against Saint John’s and Richmond. George Washington (7-2) is coming off an 84-70 win at Army on Tuesday, led by Rafael Castro’s 16 points and seven rebounds. The Revolutionaries’ two defeats were narrow, a 96-95 home loss to Murray State and a 92-86 setback against McNeese State. The game features a compelling matchup between standout guards. William & Mary’s Brockhoff has been a catalyst during the win streak, averaging 15.2 points over the last five games, including a 21-point, five-assist performance in a win over Old Dominion. For George Washington, Castro has been a consistent offensive force, scoring in double figures in every game this season and averaging 17.4 points and 5.6 rebounds. Both teams have shown potent offenses. William & Mary averages 84.2 points per game and has scored 80 or more points in seven of its ten contests. George Washington boasts a slightly higher average at 89.2 points per game and has topped 90 points five times. Defensive intensity may prove decisive. The Tribe have held opponents to 75 points or fewer in seven games, while the Revolutionaries have forced high-scoring affairs, with only two opponents held under 70 points. This contest represents a final major non-conference test for both squads before exam breaks and holiday schedules. William & Mary begins Coastal Athletic Association play in early January, while George Washington opens Atlantic 10 Conference play on Jan. 3. Saturday’s winner will secure a valuable resume-building victory heading into the heart of the schedule. Tip-off is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C.
