Preview: Holy Cross Crusaders at Fordham Rams NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Fordham Rams look to rebound from their first loss in nearly three weeks when they host the Holy Cross Crusaders in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Rose Hill Gym. Fordham (6-3) saw a four-game winning streak snapped with a 72-62 road loss at Colgate last Sunday. The Rams, who are 4-0 at home this season, will rely on guard Christian Henry to regain their rhythm. Henry is coming off an 11-point, 8-assist performance against Colgate and previously erupted for 29 points and 7 assists in a win over Albany on Nov. 29. He leads a Fordham offense that has scored 74 or more points in five of its wins. Holy Cross (3-6) arrives with some momentum after a 76-59 victory over Northeastern on Wednesday, which snapped a two-game skid. The Crusaders, however, are just 1-5 in road games this season. Their success often hinges on the play of guard Tyler Boston, who scored a team-high 18 points in the win over Northeastern. Boston has been a consistent offensive threat, reaching double figures in scoring in seven of nine games, including a 22-point outing at Sacred Heart on Nov. 21. The matchup features a contrast in recent trajectories. Fordham’s losses have come against Colgate, Iona and NJIT — all by 10 points or fewer. Holy Cross has struggled away from Worcester, Massachusetts, with its lone road win coming at Hampton on Nov. 16, and has endured lopsided defeats at BYU (98-53) and Utah (87-69). Historically, Fordham holds a 34-30 advantage in the series, though the teams have not met since 2015. The Rams’ perfect home record will be tested by a Crusaders team seeking its first winning streak of the season. For Holy Cross, containing Henry and improving its road defense will be paramount. For Fordham, re-establishing its defensive intensity after allowing Colgate to shoot 50% from the field is a priority. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon in the Bronx. Fordham hosts Fairleigh Dickinson next on Dec. 10, while Holy Cross returns home to face Regis on Dec. 9.
