ROSEMONT, Ill. (Interstat) — The DePaul Blue Demons look to rebound from a lopsided loss when they host the struggling Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in a non-conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Allstate Arena. DePaul (5-3) enters the matchup following a 96-63 defeat at LSU on Nov. 29. The Blue Demons have shown a stark contrast in results, going 4-0 at home with an average margin of victory of 24.5 points, but just 1-3 on the road. Guard Kruz McClure has provided a scoring spark, averaging 15.3 points over his last three games, including a 22-point performance against LSU. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-8) snapped an eight-game season-opening skid with a dramatic 63-62 road win at Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday. The Golden Lions’ arduous early schedule has featured eight consecutive road games against high-major or strong mid-major opponents. The Golden Lions are led by versatile guard Quion Williams, who is coming off a stat-stuffing performance against UIC with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Over his last five games, Williams is averaging 14.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists. DePaul’s defense, which has been stout at home allowing just 60.5 points per game, will focus on containing Williams and limiting second chances. The Blue Demons have balanced scoring, with four players averaging between 9.9 and 12.4 points. For Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the challenge will be building on the momentum of its first win while facing a DePaul team that has been dominant on its home floor. The Golden Lions have struggled defensively, allowing 94.2 points per game. This is the first meeting between the programs. Following this game, DePaul hosts Morgan State on Dec. 9, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff continues its road swing at Tulsa on Dec. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST.
