Boise State Looks to Upset Hot-Starting Butler at Hinkle INDIANAPOLIS (Interstat) — A surging Butler squad hosts a Boise State team seeking a statement road win when the Bulldogs and Broncos meet in nonconference men’s basketball Saturday at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler (7-1) has won six straight since a season-opening road loss at SMU, including impressive victories at South Carolina and Virginia. The Bulldogs are averaging 89.1 points per game during their win streak, powered by guard Finley Bizjack. The sophomore is averaging 22.4 points over his last five games, including a 29-point effort in Tuesday’s 84-68 win over Eastern Michigan. “We’re playing with good pace and confidence,” Butler coach said. “But we know Boise State is a tough, physical team that will challenge us defensively.” Boise State (5-3) arrives after a high-scoring 102-76 road win at Chaminade on Nov. 26, which snapped a two-game skid. The Broncos have been inconsistent offensively but boast a major weapon in forward Drew Fielder. He erupted for 27 points in just 23 minutes against Chaminade and is capable of dominant interior performances. “Drew gives us a matchup advantage most nights,” Boise State coach said. “Butler is playing as well as anyone right now, so we’ll need a complete effort.” The Broncos’ three losses have come by a combined 15 points, including narrow defeats to Southern California and North Carolina State. Their defense, allowing just 66.6 points per game, will be tested by Butler’s multifaceted attack, which also features Michael Ajayi (19 points vs. EMU). Butler holds a 3-1 all-time series edge, but the teams haven’t met since 2018. This game serves as a final major nonconference test for both before league play intensifies. Butler opens Big East action at Connecticut on Dec. 16, while Boise State begins Mountain West play at Nevada on Dec. 20. Saturday’s contest tips off at 4:30 p.m. EST. Butler is 4-0 at home this season, while Boise State is 1-1 in true road games.
