SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Friday when the San Diego Toreros visit the San Jose State Spartans in a nonconference men’s basketball game. Both programs enter with 3-5 records. San Diego looks to rebound from a 76-72 road loss at Long Beach State on Sunday. Brandon Benjamin led the Toreros with 16 points in that defeat. San Jose State also fell at home on Sunday, 72-63 to UC Irvine, despite 12 points from Ben Roseborough. The Toreros have struggled away from home, dropping their last three road contests. Their offense will challenge a Spartans defense that has allowed an average of 71.4 points in its five losses. San Jose State has shown flashes, including a 63-51 win at Loyola Chicago last week, but has been inconsistent. The Spartans will rely on guard Jermaine Washington, who is averaging a team-high 13.6 points per game. Friday’s matchup at the Event Center offers a chance for either squad to reach the .500 mark before a tougher stretch of schedule. For San Diego, it begins a run of three straight road games. San Jose State hosts Long Beach State next Tuesday before a Saturday showdown with Stanford. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
