(Interstat) — A Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball matchup features teams heading in opposite directions as the Fairfield Stags visit the Manhattan Jaspers on Friday night at Draddy Gymnasium in New York. Fairfield (5-3) enters with momentum, having won three of its last four games. The Stags are coming off a 72-68 home victory over New Hampshire on Sunday. Braden Sparks led the way with 22 points, while Brandon Benjamin posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Declan Wucherpfennig added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Manhattan (3-5) looks to snap a two-game skid after a tough 81-78 overtime loss at Army on Saturday. Fraser Roxburgh scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the defeat, and Jaden Winston also scored 18 points in a full 43-minute effort. The Jaspers have played in three overtime games already this season, going 1-2 in those contests. The Stags have been stronger on the road (2-2) than the Jaspers have been at home (1-2). This begins a key two-game conference road trip for Fairfield. Manhattan is a narrow 1-point favorite according to sportsbooks, with an over/under set at 158.5 points. Both teams face quick turnarounds, with Fairfield visiting Merrimack on Sunday and Manhattan traveling to face Marist the same day. The teams will meet again in the conference rematch at Fairfield on Jan. 14.
