EASTON, Pa. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Friday when the Mercyhurst Lakers visit the Lafayette Leopards in nonconference men’s basketball. The game at Kirby Sports Center pits struggling squads. Mercyhurst (3-5) enters on a three-game skid, most recently a 70-38 loss at West Virginia on Nov. 30. Bernie Blunt led the Lakers with 14 points in that defeat. Lafayette (2-6) has lost four of its last five, including an 88-74 home loss to Monmouth on Sunday. Caleb Williams scored 16 points and Mark Butler added 13 points and four assists for the Leopards. Both teams have found wins scarce against Division I competition. Mercyhurst’s lone D-I victory came at Loyola Chicago on Nov. 6. Lafayette’s sole D-I win was a 55-37 decision over Ball State on Nov. 29. The Lakers will look to improve an offense that averaged 49 points in its last two games. The Leopards aim to tighten a defense that allowed an average of 84.5 points in its last two contests. Friday’s matchup offers a chance for either team to gain confidence before continuing their respective schedules.
