DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — Two teams with identical records seeking momentum will meet Friday when the UAB Blazers visit the Drake Bulldogs in nonconference men’s basketball. The game at Knapp Center pits UAB (6-3) against Drake (6-3), with both looking to build consistency ahead of league play. The Blazers are coming off a 76-61 road loss at Middle Tennessee on Monday. Dayjaun Anderson, Evan Chatman and Ahmad Robinson each scored in double figures in the defeat. Drake enters with confidence after a dominant 108-57 home victory over Western Illinois on Tuesday. Braden Appelhans scored 30 points, Jaehshon Thomas added 22 and Jalen Quinn dished out six assists in the win. The Blazers have shown a potent offense, scoring 80 or more points in four of their wins, but struggled in road losses to North Carolina State and Middle Tennessee. The Bulldogs have been strong at home, with their only blemish at Knapp Center a narrow overtime loss to Robert Morris in the season opener. Friday’s result will give one team a winning nonconference ledger and a boost before December conference tests. UAB begins American Athletic Conference play in January, while Drake is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference.
