Both teams enter the Dec. 3 matchup with 8-0 records. SMU, coming off an 87-81 overtime road win at Mississippi State last Friday, is led by the high-scoring backcourt duo of Boopie Miller (28 points) and Jaron Pierre Jr. (24 points) from that victory. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, is riding high after a dominant 96-71 home win over Saint Mary’s, powered by 25 points from Duke Miles. The Mustangs’ perfect start has been tested, with close wins over Butler and Mississippi State. Vanderbilt’s schedule has been less demanding, but its average margin of victory is 27.6 points, showcasing a potent offense. This nonconference showdown features contrasting strengths. SMU has proven resilient in tight games, while Vanderbilt has overwhelmed most opponents with ease.
