MONROE, La. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet when Louisiana-Monroe hosts Mississippi Valley State in nonconference men’s basketball Wednesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Both the Warhawks (1-6) and Delta Devils (1-7) have struggled through difficult early-season schedules. Louisiana-Monroe is coming off a 97-55 loss at East Tennessee State on Nov. 23, where Renars Sondors led the team with 15 points. Mississippi Valley State last played on Nov. 25, falling 120-84 at Texas A&M. Michael James scored 32 points in that defeat, highlighting a Delta Devils offense that has shown flashes but ranks near the bottom nationally in scoring defense, allowing over 94 points per game. The Warhawks’ lone win came against NAIA opponent Rust, 88-55, on Nov. 10. The Delta Devils’ single victory was a 97-61 decision over MUW, also an NAIA school, on Nov. 5. This matchup represents a rare chance for either squad to secure a win against a Division I foe before conference play begins. The game is the first of a two-game homestand for ULM before it travels to Stephen F. Austin on Sunday. Mississippi Valley State continues a road-heavy slate at Kansas State on Monday.
