AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — Two teams riding high-scoring victories will meet when the Virginia Cavaliers visit the Texas Longhorns in a marquee nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Virginia (6-1) arrives after a dominant 94-69 win over Queens (N.C.) on Friday. The Cavaliers’ frontcourt duo of Johann Gruenloh (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Thijs De Ridder (21 points) led the way. Virginia’s only loss came 80-73 to Butler on Nov. 23. Texas (6-2) is coming off a 102-97 shootout win over North Carolina State last Wednesday, powered by guard Jordan Pope’s 28 points. The Longhorns’ two defeats are by a combined four points, including an 87-86 loss to Arizona State. The matchup pits Virginia’s efficient offense, averaging 83.1 points, against a Texas team averaging 85.1 points. The Longhorns’ schedule strengthens considerably after this, with a trip to Connecticut looming. Wednesday’s contest is the programs’ first meeting since 2022. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CST.
