NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Interstat) — Stephen F. Austin looks to rebound from a narrow road loss when it hosts Texas-Rio Grande Valley in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday at William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Lumberjacks (5-2) fell 66-61 at Texas-Arlington on Saturday, despite 20 points from Keon Thompson. They are 3-0 at home this season, including a 76-66 win over Abilene Christian on Nov. 14. The Vaqueros (2-4) are seeking consistency after a 1-3 road trip, most recently an 87-73 loss at Illinois on Nov. 24. Kye Dickson scored 21 points in that defeat. UTRGV’s two wins came against Southwestern Adventist and Southern Utah. Stephen F. Austin has won its last three meetings against UTRGV. The Lumberjacks’ home dominance and more balanced record make them the favorite, but the Vaqueros feature capable scorers in Dickson and Filip Brankovic, who had 15 points against Illinois. The game tips off at 7 p.m. CST. Stephen F. Austin hosts Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday, while UTRGV returns home to face Austin Peay the same day.
