SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers look to build on a winning record when they visit the South Carolina Upstate Spartans in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday at the G.B. Hodge Center. Coastal Carolina (5-3) enters on a two-game win streak, most recently a 67-60 home victory over Alabama A&M on Sunday. AJ Dancler led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds. The Chanticleers’ season has been marked by volatility, including a 94-42 loss at Illinois State on Nov. 23 sandwiched by more resilient performances. The Spartans (4-5) seek consistency after a 72-63 road loss at Nebraska on Saturday. Karmani Gregory scored a team-high 20 points in the defeat. South Carolina Upstate has struggled away from Spartanburg, going 1-4 on the road, but is 3-1 at home this season, including an 82-67 win over North Carolina Central on Nov. 25. The game represents a final tune-up for both teams before busier December schedules. Coastal Carolina’s defense, which held its last opponent to 60 points, will be tested by a Spartans’ offense that averages 75.2 points per game at home. Tipoff is set for Wednesday night in Spartanburg.
