OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — A surging Northern Colorado team visits Baxter Arena on Wednesday to face Omaha in a nonconference men’s basketball game. The Bears (7-1) have won four straight, including a 104-63 rout of Regis on Saturday. Quinn Denker (15 points, 5 assists) and Ariik Mawien (17 points) led a balanced attack in that win. Northern Colorado’s only loss came by a single point at Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Nov. 21. The Mavericks (3-6) snapped a four-game skid with an 84-62 home win over Mid-America Christian on Saturday. Lance Waddles scored 21 points and Kamryn Thomas added 16 in the victory. Omaha has struggled on the road, going 0-6, but is 3-0 at home. Wednesday’s contest pits one of the nation’s early top offenses in Northern Colorado against an Omaha squad seeking consistency. The Bears’ high-scoring attack will be tested by a Mavericks defense that allowed 99 points in a loss at LSU last month. After this game, Northern Colorado hosts South Dakota on Saturday. Omaha travels to face Portland State on Saturday.
