HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — The surging High Point Panthers look to continue their strong start when they host the Southern Illinois Salukis in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday at Qubein Arena. High Point (7-1) has won seven straight since a season-opening loss at UAB, including a 93-73 home victory over Western Carolina on Saturday. Cam’Ron Fletcher (22 points), Rob Martin (17 points, 5 assists) and Terry Anderson (16 points) led the way in that win. Southern Illinois (4-4) snapped a two-game skid with a 74-65 home win over Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday. Drew Steffe scored 21 points to pace the Salukis, with Jalen Haynes adding 10 points and four assists. The Panthers have dominated at home, winning by an average of 38 points in their four games at Qubein Arena this season. The Salukis are 1-3 in true road games, with their lone win coming at Delaware on Nov. 23. This is the first meeting between the programs. Southern Illinois faces a quick turnaround before its Missouri Valley Conference slate begins later this month, while High Point continues a five-game homestand before opening Big South play in January.
