LEIPSIC, Del. (Interstat) — Navy looks to snap a two-game skid when it visits Delaware State in nonconference men’s basketball on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Hall. The Midshipmen (4-5) are coming off a 69-65 home loss to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, despite 24 points from guard Austin Benigni. Navy’s offense has been inconsistent, scoring 84 points in a win over Gardner-Webb on Nov. 26 but managing just 57 in a loss to UNC Wilmington the following day. Delaware State (2-6) has lost three straight, most recently a 71-57 defeat at Maryland-Baltimore County. Forward Ponce James leads the Hornets, coming off a 19-point performance. The Hornets have struggled against high-major competition, losing by large margins to Miami and Syracuse, but earned a home win over Division III Kean on Nov. 20. This matchup features two teams seeking momentum before entering their respective conference schedules. Navy holds a slight edge in record but has yet to win a true road game this season (0-3). Delaware State is 2-2 at home. Following this game, Navy hosts Air Force on Dec. 7 to open Patriot League play. Delaware State hosts state rival Delaware on Dec. 6.
