PROVO, Utah (Interstat) — An undefeated California Baptist team will face its toughest test yet when the Lancers visit BYU on Wednesday night at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. The Lancers (7-0) are off to the best start in their Division I history, coming off a 75-69 road win at Oregon State on Saturday. Martel Williams led the way with 19 points, while Devon Malcolm added 16 off the bench. California Baptist has won each of its games by at least eight points. BYU (5-1), receiving votes in the latest AP Top 25 poll, brings momentum from a 72-62 victory at Miami on Thanksgiving. The Cougars’ lone loss came in a tight 86-84 game at then-Connecticut. Freshman standout AJ Dybantsa averages a team-high 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds, while Keba Keita anchors the defense, averaging 3.7 blocks. This is the first meeting between the programs. The game is part of BYU’s nonconference slate before Big 12 play begins in January. California Baptist continues a challenging road stretch at Utah on Saturday.
