DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — A pair of surging teams with matching 6-1 records will meet Tuesday when the Dayton Flyers host the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup at University of Dayton Arena. Both teams enter on four-game winning streaks. The Buccaneers are coming off an 80-57 rout of Central Arkansas on Saturday, powered by a 28-point, 8-rebound performance from Jaylen Smith. Teammate Brian Taylor recorded a triple-double in the win with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Dayton last played on Thanksgiving, edging Georgetown 84-79 in overtime. Amael L’Etang led the Flyers with 18 points in that victory. Dayton’s resume also includes a notable 77-71 overtime road win against Marquette on Nov. 19. East Tennessee State’s only loss came in its season opener at Presbyterian, 68-64. Since then, the Buccaneers have averaged 81.8 points per game during their winning streak. The Flyers’ sole defeat was a 74-62 road loss to Cincinnati on Nov. 11. Dayton is 4-0 at home this season. Tuesday’s contest is the final tune-up for both teams before significant upcoming tests. Dayton will face Virginia in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday, while East Tennessee State hosts South Alabama on Friday before a Dec. 16 trip to North Carolina.
