GREENVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum will meet Tuesday when East Carolina hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore in a non-conference men’s basketball game at Williams Arena. The Pirates (2-5) return home after a 67-58 loss to Saint Bonaventure on Thursday. Jordan Riley led East Carolina in that contest, scoring 28 points. The defeat extended a challenging start for the Pirates, whose only wins this season have come against Georgia Southern and Division II Elizabeth City State. The visiting Hawks (4-6) are coming off an 84-60 victory over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday. Dorion Staples was a key contributor in the win, posting 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Joseph Locandro added a team-high 19 points. Maryland-Eastern Shore has shown resilience on the road this season, with wins at Binghamton and Longwood in double-overtime. Both teams have struggled against high-major opponents, with the Hawks losing handily at Nebraska, Creighton and Georgia, while the Pirates fell to Michigan State and Richmond. Tuesday’s game offers an opportunity for either squad to secure a rare win against a Division I peer before continuing their demanding schedules. East Carolina will host UNC Greensboro on Saturday, while Maryland-Eastern Shore travels to face American.
