JONESBORO, Ark. (Interstat) — A pair of surging men’s basketball teams will meet Tuesday night when the Texas-Arlington Mavericks visit the Arkansas State Red Wolves at First National Bank Arena. The Mavericks (6-2) enter the non-conference matchup riding a three-game winning streak, most recently a 66-61 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Raysean Seamster and Casmir Chavis each scored 16 points in the win, while Marcell McCreary added 13. Texas-Arlington’s strong start includes a 74-73 road win at Weber State on Nov. 22. Arkansas State (5-3) is also coming off a momentum-building victory, having outlasted North Dakota State 85-80 in overtime on Friday. TJ Caldwell led the Red Wolves with 19 points, Matt Hayman scored 15 and Chandler Jackson dished out five assists. The win snapped a two-game skid for Arkansas State, which opened its season with a notable 86-85 road win at Missouri State. Both teams have shown an ability to win close games, setting the stage for a competitive contest. The Mavericks will look to continue their winning ways on the road before a 10-day break, while the Red Wolves aim to build a winning streak before traveling to face Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Central Time.
