ATLANTA (Interstat) — A national championship will be on the line Friday when the only two undefeated teams in major college football finally meet, setting up a high-stakes rematch between Indiana and Oregon. The top-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (14-0) will face the Oregon Ducks (14-1) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Indiana is seeking its first national title, while Oregon aims for its second, with its lone loss this season coming against these same Hoosiers. On Oct. 11, Indiana went into Eugene and secured a 30-20 victory, a result that has shaped both teams’ paths to Atlanta. The Hoosiers have dominated since, including a 38-3 dismantling of Alabama in the semifinal. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza was brilliant in that win, completing 14 of 16 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns, adding to an efficient season. Oregon, fueled by that October defeat, has won nine straight, most recently a 23-0 shutout of Texas Tech. Quarterback Dante Moore has been pivotal, throwing for 313 yards and four touchdowns in a 51-34 win over James Madison prior to the semifinal. The Ducks’ defense has been formidable, posting consecutive shutouts in halves of playoff games. The matchup features a contrast in momentum. Indiana’s path has been one of sustained dominance, while Oregon’s has been built on post-loss vengeance and defensive improvement. According to National Statistical, the game simulator projects a 33-28 Oregon victory. Oddsmakers, however, list the Ducks as a 3.5-point favorite, with an over/under of 47.5. The stage is set for a duel between Mendoza’s precision and Moore’s explosive playmaking, with history awaiting the winner under the Atlanta lights.
