MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW DETROIT (Interstat) — The Mid-American Conference championship will be decided Saturday at Ford Field in a rematch between two teams heading in opposite directions since their October meeting. The Western Michigan Broncos (8-4) host the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (7-5) for the league title, with the game designated a home contest for WMU. The Broncos enter on a three-game winning streak, while the RedHawks have split their last four. The teams met just over a month ago in Oxford, Ohio, with Miami securing a 26-17 victory on Oct. 25. That result adds a layer of intrigue to the neutral-site championship clash. Western Michigan’s surge has been fueled by a powerful running game, spearheaded by dual-threat quarterback Broc Lowry. In the Broncos’ current win streak, Lowry has been a consistent force on the ground, rushing for 92 yards in each of the last two games and totaling 284 rushing yards with six touchdowns over the three contests. His ability to complement running back Jalen Buckley makes the Broncos’ offense multifaceted. Miami counters with its own dynamic quarterback in Thomas Gotkowski. He is coming off a commanding performance in a 45-24 win over Ball State on Nov. 29, where he passed for 226 yards and three touchdowns while adding 44 rushing yards. The RedHawks’ offense has shown high-scoring potential, putting up 45 points in two of its last three wins. Defensively, both teams have shown recent strength. Western Michigan has held its last three opponents to an average of 17.7 points. Miami’s defense, while inconsistent, forced key turnovers in the earlier win over the Broncos. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, Western Michigan is projected for a narrow 27-24 victory. However, oddsmakers list Miami as a slight 1.5-point favorite. The over/under is set at 43.5 points. The championship stakes elevate this contest beyond the regular-season result. Western Michigan seeks to avenge its October loss and cap its strong finish with a title, while Miami aims to prove its earlier win was no fluke and secure the conference crown despite a less consistent season. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at Ford Field in Detroit.
