NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Interstat) — Two of the nation’s most successful FCS programs will meet in a regular-season finale when the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks host the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday at Homer Bryce Stadium. The Lumberjacks (10-2), riding a five-game winning streak, look to avenge their early-season loss to the Wildcats and solidify their playoff resume. Stephen F. Austin’s offense is multifaceted, evidenced by three quarterbacks — Sam Vidlak, Bryson Broadway and Gavin Rutherford — combining for five touchdown passes in a 62-14 rout of Northwestern State on Nov. 20. The Wildcats (9-4) enter with momentum of their own, winning four straight since a late-October bye. They handed the Lumberjacks their first loss, 28-20, on Sept. 6. In last week’s 38-20 win over Lamar, quarterback Stone Earle accounted for four touchdowns, and running back Jordon Vaughn added 110 all-purpose yards and a score. This matchup features two potent offenses. Stephen F. Austin has averaged 48 points during its streak, while Abilene Christian has scored at least 30 points in seven of its nine wins. The Lumberjacks’ defense, however, has been a constant, allowing just 14.8 points per game during the same five-game span. National Statistical’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, favoring Stephen F. Austin 42-35. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Dec. 6.
