FARGO, N.D. (Interstat) — North Dakota State puts its perfect season on the line when it hosts Illinois State on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Fargodome. The Bison (12-0), seeking an unblemished regular season, have dominated opponents by an average margin of 31 points. Their offense is powered by quarterback Cole Payton, who threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns in a 62-7 rout of Saint Thomas on Nov. 22. NDSU defeated Illinois State 33-16 in Normal on Oct. 4. The Redbirds (9-4) enter on a two-game winning streak, including a 21-3 road victory over Southeastern Louisiana last week. Quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse accounted for two touchdowns and wide receiver Daniel Sobkowicz had eight catches for 89 yards and a score in that win. Illinois State’s four losses have come against teams with a combined 41-7 record. The Bison defense, allowing just 13.3 points per game, will challenge a Redbirds offense that has been inconsistent. NDSU’s balanced attack, which averages 45.8 points, will test an Illinois State defense that surrendered 37 points to Southern Illinois three weeks ago. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, North Dakota State is projected to win 42-17. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CST at the Fargodome.
