BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Interstat) — An undefeated season and playoff positioning will be on the line Saturday when the Lehigh Mountain Hawks host the Villanova Wildcats in a regular-season finale at Goodman Stadium. Lehigh (12-0), one of the nation’s last remaining unbeaten teams, looks to cap a perfect campaign and solidify its case for a high seed in the FCS playoffs. Standing in their way is a formidable Villanova squad (10-2) riding a four-game winning streak, its only losses coming against FBS powerhouse Penn State and CAA foe Monmouth. The matchup features two of the country’s most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks. For Villanova, Pat McQuaide has been instrumental during the win streak, accounting for 10 touchdowns. In last week’s 52-7 rout of Harvard, McQuaide completed 14 of 22 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns while adding 28 rushing yards and another score on the ground. Lehigh counters with Hayden Johnson, a consistent playmaker who has guided the Mountain Hawks’ efficient offense. In the team’s 42-32 victory over Lafayette on Nov. 22, Johnson passed for 159 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 64 yards and another score. His ability to extend plays will test a stout Wildcats defense. Villanova’s offense also boasts a potent rushing attack, evidenced by Isaiah Ragland’s 152-yard performance against Harvard. Containing this balanced attack will be Lehigh’s primary defensive challenge. While Lehigh has dominated its schedule, its path has featured several Patriot League opponents. Saturday’s clash represents a significant step up in competition against a battle-tested Villanova team from the Colonial Athletic Association. The Wildcats’ two defeats were by a combined 44 points, but they have since found a rhythm, winning their last four by an average margin of 19 points. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, this contest is projected to be a tight affair, with Lehigh edging Villanova 26-24. The outcome will resonate beyond the rivalry, shaping the playoff landscape as both teams await their postseason fate. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 6.
