NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — A conference championship and major bowl implications will be on the line Friday when No. 15 Tulane hosts No. 12 North Texas at Yulman Stadium. The matchup pairs two of the nation’s hottest teams. North Texas (11-1) brings a seven-game winning streak into New Orleans, fueled by one of the country’s top offenses. The Mean Green are averaging 52.3 points during their streak, including a 52-25 rout of Temple last week where quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns. Tulane (10-2) has won five straight since a loss to UTSA, most recently shutting out Charlotte 27-0. The Green Wave’s defense has allowed just 13.8 points per game during their run. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff leads an efficient offense, passing for 291 yards and two scores in the win over Charlotte. This game serves as the American Athletic Conference championship. Both teams have secured spots in the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, but the winner will claim the league’s automatic berth and likely a more favorable seeding. National Statistical’s game simulator projects a close Tulane victory, 32-26. The Green Wave are favored by 2.5 points, with an over/under of 67.5. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CST on Friday, Dec. 5.
