AP Sports Preview SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The San Antonio Spurs host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday in a pivotal Game 5 of their Western Conference playoff series at Frost Bank Center. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CDT. The series is tied 2-2 after a wild four-game split. Minnesota claimed Game 1 at home 104-102 on May 4, but San Antonio responded with a 133-95 blowout in Game 2 on May 6. The Spurs then took a 2-1 series lead with a 115-108 victory in Minnesota on May 8 before the Timberwolves evened the series with a 38-34 win Sunday — a defensive slugfest that marked the lowest-scoring playoff game in NBA history. The top-seeded Spurs (68-23) hold the league’s best regular-season record and have won three of four home meetings with Minnesota this season. The Timberwolves (54-37) are seeking their second road win of the series after stealing Game 1. Minnesota guard Anthony Edwards has been inconsistent. He posted 32 points, 14 rebounds and six assists in Game 3 but managed only 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting in Game 2. In the series-opening win, Edwards scored 18 points and added three rebounds and three assists. San Antonio forward Victor Wembanyama has dominated the series. The 7-foot-4 center recorded 39 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in Game 3 and followed with 19 points and 15 rebounds in Game 2. He was held to 11 points in Game 1 but still contributed 15 rebounds and a playoff-record 12 blocks. The Interstat game simulator projects a 121-108 Spurs victory. The winner of Tuesday’s game will hold a 3-2 lead as the series shifts back to Minnesota for Game 6 on Friday. Game 7, if necessary, would be in San Antonio on May 17.
