MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves meet Friday at Target Center in Game 3 of their Western Conference playoff series. The best-of-seven set is tied 1-1. San Antonio (66-23) posted the NBA’s best record this season. Minnesota (54-35) enters as the No. 5 seed. The Spurs feature forward Victor Wembanyama. The 7-foot-4 second-year star logged 40 minutes in Game 1 on May 4, recording 11 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 12 blocks in a 104-102 loss. He averaged 26.8 points and 9.6 rebounds across six games against Portland in the first round. For Minnesota, forward Julius Randle has been a consistent force. He posted 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Game 1 victory. In six games against Denver in the first round, Randle averaged 19.2 points and 6.8 rebounds. The Timberwolves won three of four regular-season meetings, including a 125-112 rout in Minneapolis on Nov. 30 and a 104-103 decision on Jan. 11 at home. The Spurs took a 126-123 overtime win in San Antonio on Jan. 17. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 117-108 Minnesota victory. Game 4 is Sunday at Target Center. The series will shift back to San Antonio for Game 5 on Tuesday if necessary.
