CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Cleveland Cavaliers, firmly entrenched in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, will look to rebound from a disappointing loss when they host the struggling Washington Wizards on Sunday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The Cavaliers (51-30) enter the regular season’s final week seeking to solidify their postseason seeding, but are coming off a 124-102 road defeat to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. Prior to that, Cleveland had won seven of its previous eight games. A focal point for Cleveland will be All-Star forward Evan Mobley, who is in the midst of a dominant stretch. Over his last 10 games, Mobley is averaging 19.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists, including a 34-point, 17-rebound performance against Utah on March 30 and a 22-point, 19-rebound effort in a win over Atlanta on April 8. His two-way versatility will be a significant challenge for a Washington defense that ranks among the league’s worst. The Wizards (17-64) own the NBA’s worst record and have lost 10 consecutive games, most recently a 140-117 home defeat to the Miami Heat on Friday. Rookie Julian Reese and veterans Anthony Gill and Clayton Carrington were noted as bright spots in that loss, but Washington’s season-long defensive woes have persisted. They have allowed an average of 136.7 points during their current 10-game skid. Recent history heavily favors the Cavaliers. Cleveland has won all three meetings against Washington this season by an average margin of 23.7 points, including a 138-113 victory on Feb. 11. The Wizards have not beaten the Cavaliers since the 2022-23 season. For Washington, the game represents another opportunity for evaluation of its young core ahead of a critical offseason. For Cleveland, it is a chance to regain momentum and fine-tune execution before the playoffs begin. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT Sunday.
