Preview: Kings at Trail Blazers PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Portland Trail Blazers, fighting to secure a winning season, will host the struggling Sacramento Kings on Sunday at Moda Center. Portland (40-40) returns home looking to rebound from a 101-112 road loss to San Antonio on Wednesday. The Trail Blazers have been competitive in recent weeks, going 6-4 over their last 10 games, but have dropped two straight. Their offense has consistently run through forward Deni Avdija, who is in the midst of a stellar stretch. Over his last five games, Avdija is averaging 27.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists, including a 29-point, 6-rebound, 6-assist performance against the Spurs. Sacramento (21-59) arrives after a 105-110 loss at Golden State on Tuesday. The Kings have lost eight of their last ten and own the worst record in the Western Conference. Guard Killian Hayes, a player to watch for the Kings, is coming off one of his best games of the season with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes against the Warriors. His production, however, has been inconsistent. The season series has favored Portland, with the Trail Blazers winning all three prior matchups. The most dramatic was a 134-133 overtime victory in Portland on Dec. 18. In their last meeting on Jan. 18, Portland won 117-110 in Sacramento. For the Trail Blazers, Sunday represents a final opportunity to finish above .500 in their regular-season finale. For the Kings, it is the conclusion of a long, difficult season where development of young players like Hayes has been a primary focus. Portland will look to exploit its recent dominance in the matchup and avoid a damaging loss to the conference’s bottom team. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. PDT.
