PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Charlotte Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers, two teams jockeying for position in the crowded middle of their respective conferences, will meet Tuesday night at Moda Center in a rematch of a recent lopsided contest. The Hornets (32-32) arrive having won seven of their last 10 games but are coming off a 128-120 home loss to Miami on Friday. They previously handled the Trail Blazers (30-34) with ease just 10 days ago, a 109-93 victory in Charlotte on Feb. 28. Charlotte’s surge has been fueled by forward Brandon Miller, who is averaging 22.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists over his last 10 games. He dominated Portland in the last meeting, scoring 26 points with eight rebounds. In Friday’s loss to the Heat, Miller posted a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Portland seeks to halt a two-game skid after a 106-99 road loss to Houston on Friday. The Trail Blazers have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. Second-year center Donovan Clingan remains a bright spot, recording a double-double (18 points, 13 rebounds) against the Rockets. He has six double-doubles in his last 10 outings, including a 23-point, 18-rebound, 7-assist performance against Utah on Feb. 12. The Hornets’ recent success has featured explosive offense, scoring at least 117 points in six of their last seven wins. Portland’s defense, which allowed 109 points to Charlotte last month and 135 to Atlanta in a recent blowout loss, will be tested. This matchup represents a critical opportunity for both clubs as the regular season enters its final weeks. A win would push Charlotte above .500, while Portland aims to get back to two games under the break-even mark and gain a measure of revenge for the February defeat. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PDT tip-off at Moda Center.
